OSHA #3010 - Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics
Trenching accidents are one of the most common construction accidents nationwide each year.This course focuses on OSHA standards and on the safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Students are introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. Various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic) are covered.

10 Hour Construction Industry Course
Students completing this course will receive their 10 hour OSHA Construction Card. This is a brief overview of the standard with emphasis is placed on those areas that are most hazardous including personal protective equipment, fall protection, hazard awareness, ladders, scaffolding, and many more.

OSHA 60000 Collateral Duties 3/8/10-3/11/10

This course introduces federal agency collateral duty safety and health personnel to the OSH Act, Executive Order 12196, 29 CFR 1960 and 29 CFR 1910. The training enables participants to recognize basic safety and health hazards in the workplace and effectively assist agency safety and health officers with inspection and abatement efforts.

OSHA 501 General Industry Trainer 3/15/10-3/18/10

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health course and to issue cards to participants verifying course completion. A thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards is required for this course.

OSHA 510 and 500 Course

There is a opportunity for Southern Nevada ASSE members to attend a OSHA 510 (Construction Standards and the prerequisite to the Train-the-Trainer course) and/or the OSHA 500 course (the Out Reach Train-the-Trainer course) at a reduced rate.

The dates for the 510 is December 14 thru the 17th, and the 500 is January 4th thru the 7th.

The courses are being provided by California State University-Domingo Hills, one of the four OIT centers for Region IX, (Nevada and California).

This course for private sector personnel covers OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Topics Include: OSH Act, Safety Programs, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Stairs and Ladders. A copy of 29 CFR 1926 is provided to the students in this course.
This course is the prerequisite for the OSHA 500 course.
